The good, the great, and the better, the 2019 Grammy Awards went from strength to strength. Host Alicia Keys opened the show alongside Lady Gaga, Jada Pinkett Smith, Michelle Obama (what?!) and Jennifer Lopez which set the strong female tone throughout the rest of the ceremony.
With performances from Miley Cyrus, Kacey Musgraves, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Dolly Parton, Diana Ross plus many more extraordinary talents, it’s fair to say they all deserved awards!
Lady Gaga’s hit ‘Shallow,’ from A Star Is Born, won best pop duo/group performance and best song written for visual media. She also won best solo performance for ‘Joanna (Where Do You Think You’re Going’?)’. Kacey Musgraves took home a massive four Grammy’s for best country album, best country song, best country solo performance plus the award of the evening, album of the year! Despite just releasing her 5th studio album, Ariana Grande took away best vocal pop vocal album for Sweetener.
Females continued to dominate the ceremony, with one of the most historic Grammy’s to ever be presented going to Emily Lazar who became the first female ever to win best engineered album (non-classical) for her work on Beck’s Colors, which also won best alternative album.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a true awards ceremony if Drake didn’t win some sort of accolade, and at this event it was ‘Best Rap Song’ for his tune ‘Gods Plan’.
Young rockers Greta Van Fleet also proved they’re here to stay (and win) as their album Anthem Of The Peaceful Army won best rock album.
