Maroon 5, the group with so many irresistibly-catchy songs that make you double-take your current state of emotion. Their albums wrestle with your heart and the lyrics take you through a journey of highs, lows, and then just some down-right foot taps.
In honour of Maroon 5’s upcoming tune ‘Beautiful Mistakes‘ (out March 3rd!) with Megan Thee Stallion, we’re taking a look back at some of our favourite favourite Maroon 5 tracks.
10. Don’t Wanna Know feat. Kendrick Lamar
This one features our Compton Rap-King, Kendrick. It’s a tune but have you seen the video? The band dresses up as bugs and monsters, are chased by fans, captured, and then it turns a little… dark.
9. Harder to Breathe
When you mix a breakup with overwhelming pressure from fans and labels to keep creating, you’re left with a gritty but powerful track showcasing emotional vocals from Adam Levine, the tracks writer. Harder to Breathe was the second single on the bands 2002 album ‘Songs about Jane’ and is probably the song you didn’t realize you knew a lot of the lyrics to until you heard it again. A track with nostalgic feelings of frustration, heartbreak yet optimism, the chorus will inevitably make any crowd sing along.
8. Sugar
For two unsuspecting newlyweds, this song means a whole load to them. The boys surprised the couple at their wedding – playing this song live! Check out the video:
7. Girls Like You ft. Cardi B
You know those tracks that just taste like summer? Add this one to the playlist. Maroon 5 released with sound in 2017 on their album ‘Red Pill Blues’ and it’s not one to miss.
6. Payphone feat. Wiz Khalifa
This track moved 493,000 downloads in its first week. I’ve never used a payphone in my entire life and yet the relatability of this song is ridiculously accurate. It’s a great one to play when you’re stuck in traffic – the beat is buoyant and catchy as ever, Levine’s unmistakably familiar voice contrasted with Khalifa’s hip-hop flavour.
5. Memories
Memories was released just this month, September 20 2019. The lyrics were crafted for those who have experienced loss – or, all of us in that case. It gives us an insight into what Maroon 5’s 7th album release will entail. It’s sentimental, it’s real, it’s groovy, it’s original. Give it a listen!
4. Makes Me Wonder
If you’re not already on the dance floor you might as well just pack up and run there. I’m sorry but when this audio trickles through your headphones and into your consciousness – it’s over. You’re going to move. The groove was released in 2007 on their album ‘It Won’t Be Soon Before Long’ and turns out it’s not just a love song. “Give me something to believe in, ‘cause I don’t believe in you anymore” as the song’s chorus, tells of politics. “There is so much going on in America at the moment. I hope we can dig ourselves out of this hole.” – Lead singer, Adam Levine.

“Has taken its toll on me”. So much so I’m going to chuck that gold on repeat.
2. She Will Be Loved
Usually when a pop-group, known predominantly for the pop genre try and tackle a slower sound, they fail. And then there is Maroon 5. This sweet, sad, soulful tune has a key place in my heart and pangs the memory of old love when it plays. A favourite line: “It’s not always rainbows and butterflies it’s compromise that moves us along”.
1. Sunday Morning
This undeniable groove is from Maroon 5’s OG album ‘Songs About Jane’ released back in 2002; a song you’d blast in the car that both you and your dad would happily jam to. I truly hope this track never dies, I’ve heard it a couple of times as a throwback on the radio and oh my; the rock-fused melody blessed my ears as if it was the first time.
Please note, with the amount of amazing music these guys supply, the above top 10 list is certainly up for debate!
