Since the release of his debut album Women Weed & Wordplay back in 2018, Sydney’s own ChillinIt (or Blake Turnell to his mum) has steadily risen to dominate the Australian rap scene. With his cocky swagger and bulletproof raps, the grime MC is simply just himself and it’s that very factor that resonates with his Instagram following of over quarter of a million. From posting candid videos of his smoking sessions to motivational snippets of advice, to the raw and personal themes of his songs, there’s a lot to like about Chill and his audience is only growing.

For most of his success, Chill did it without being backed by a label. His single ‘One Breath One Take’, off Women Weed & Wordplay, gained 4 million views on YouTube within the year (it now currently sits at 9 million) and the album itself peaked at number 9 on the Australian Albums Chart and number 2 on the Australian iTunes Chart. He’s earned over 216 Spotify streams, earned an Australian Independent Award for Best Independent Hip Hop Album for his sophomore project The Octagon, and his tour for said album sold near 20,000 tickets, earning him the biggest Australian headline tour of 2021.

Now, Chill is gearing up to drop his third highly anticipated album FAMILY TIES at the end of November. Lead single ‘Susan’s Son’, an emotional dedication to his mum, is already doing numbers and its music video finds the rapper gifting his mum a cheque in a beautiful, sincere moment. The track perfectly sets the tone for the album, one Chill calls his most introspective and personal yet. It’s set to detail his journey and the obstacles he’s overcome along the way and drive his number one priority home: family always comes first.

With the drop of his latest single ‘Cashed Out Stoner’, Chill is proving he’s only getting stronger. His quick flow and thumping drill beats continue to set him apart from the rest and his authenticity and fearless attitude keep drawing more and more fans in. Calling his fans his ‘420 Family’, Chill accredits everything to those who helped bring him up and he’s always looking for ways to give back (he donated $10,000 to Women’s Refuge in February). FAMILY TIES is set to be the biggest project the rapper has done yet, but he wants us all to know he still has plenty more up his sleeve.

ChillinIt’s third studio album ‘FAMILY TIES’ is out November 26. Pre-order here.
