Australian artist Jack Gray has been on a roll. With an impressive fanbase behind him, he’s once again setting hearts aflutter with his newest single, ‘Tattoos.’ So, we think it’s the perfect time to properly get acquainted with this up-and-comer. Let’s get to know a bit about him!

Raised in a musical family based in Queensland, Jack spent six months at Queensland University of Technology. But Jack realised that learning how to become an artist through academics wasn’t for him, leaving to chase something that felt more real and instinctive. It’s clearly working for him, as his desire for his music to feel unpolished and honest shines through in every release, especially in his most recent single ‘Tattoos.’

‘Tattoos’ was written after a chaotic session with fellow Australian pop sensation Peach PRC, during which Jack and Peach indeed got matching tattoos to commemorate their shared love of The 1975. With lyrics like ‘we were 19 listening to 75’, it’s full of moments that have us drawing on teenage nostalgia, making it a perfect hit for our next obsession. We’re seeing that yearning for 2014-2016 all over our socials right now, so there couldn’t be a better time for this hit to land. ‘Robbers’ on streaming, anyone?

We can certainly feel Peach’s influence in the final product – it’s energizing, attentive and one of his best releases to date. Furthermore, the music video for ‘Tattoos’ has a distinct movie-style feel, inspired by Jack’s love of cinema. Having enlisted director Maddy King (One Four, Moza, Yuma X) and Cameron March (Midnight Oil), the video, shot in Las Vegas, channels the dizzy impulsive energy that the creation of ‘Tattoos’ generated.

Jack isn’t just a fantastic singer, he’s a true talent from all angles. On ‘Tattoos,’ he plays bass, guitar, synths and piano, as well as producing it himself! His upcoming album is also primarily self-produced. We don’t know too much about his upcoming album as he’s keeping things quiet, but we do know whatever he comes out with will be fantastic!

‘Tattoos’ is Jack’s first release of 2026, following past singles ‘Bluffin’, ‘Drive Her Home’, and ‘Dumb Sh*t.’ Overall, his discography has landed him an insane 40 million+ streams. And he’s not looking to be slowing down anytime soon!

Jack’s been on an insane trajectory throughout his early career. His first single, ‘Red Rental Car’ was released in 2017, at the age of 19, drawing on universal themes such as escapism and vulnerability, and it was followed by hits including ‘Bluffin’,’ ‘Drive Her Home’ and ‘Dumb Sh*t’ which have contributed to his WILD 40 million+ streams to date. One of his most famous songs, ‘My Hands’, leans into the topics of sex and unhealthy relationships, topics that much of his audience will likely be able to relate to.

To call Jack Gray busy would be an understatement. Alongside sussing the upcoming record and landing collaborations that would awe any Aussie, he’s been on the road a LOT with many of our faves. Most recently he toured NZ with Maren Morris but previously he’s supported artists like Maisie Peters, Jeremy Zucker, Tate McRae and Matt Corby. Clearly, his abilities endear him to a wide range of audiences, and his peers (rightfully!) recognise that.

Back in 2023, Jack also headlined his own events across Australia, supporting the release of his EP Future Echo. While he continues to open for other famous acts, it’s great to know that Jack is also capable of holding his own as a headliner – and his confidence is sure to grow.

With so many achievements already under his belt while only being in his 20s, Jack’s star is continuing to rise, and we can’t wait to see what milestones he conquers next. The sky is the limit – and it seems like he’s getting there.
