Ahead of indie-rock/pop band The Band Camino’s touchdown in Auckland next month, their opener almost monday have been generating their own fanbase online thanks to their impressive sound. But who are they? We have everything you need to know.
almost monday have been around since 2015
The band members of almost monday, Dawson Daugherty, Luke Fabry, and Cole Clisby, met in high school where they formed the band after Daugherty’s appearance on The Voice. Their first Instagram post landed in November 2015, where their humble beginnings as a group officially kicked off.
They’ve had a very consistent release schedule
Their first single, ‘Take Me Higher’ was released in 2017, followed by ‘Broken People’ in 2019. Since then, they’ve dropped 3 EPs and a debut album titled Dive through Hollywood Records in 2024.
They’re not afraid to be experimental
These guys aren’t worried about how it might feel to mix things up! Not only do they explore the alt-pop sound, but they frequently cross the boundaries into hip-hop and even disco! The dexterity they have as artists is undoubtedly one of the reasons that they’re garnering such a dedicated fanbase, as it feels like they have a song for every season. And no matter what the genre is, the music is irresistibly good and undeniably fun.
They’re making waves in the award space
They’ve recently been nominated for the Best New Artist (Alternative) category at the iHeart Music Awards! Fans will vote for the winner, so here’s hoping listeners are pulling out all the stops until March 26! To celebrate their nomination, the band performed at iHeartRadio’s ALTer EGO event last week. To top it off, while they haven’t been nominated yet, they HAVE performed at the Grammy Museum.

The charts also love them!
Their track ‘Can’t Slow Down’ from Dive reached number 1 on the Billboard Alternative Airplay charts, and number 8 on the Rock & Alternative Airplay charts. Not bad considering Dive was their first full-length album!
This isn’t their first time touring with another well-known name!
In 2024, they toured with indie-pop band AJR, supporting them on the road for their album The Maybe Man for part of the US leg. Shows they opened for included Columbus, Chicago, Detroit and Pittsburgh. They were also joined on some of these dates by heartfelt singer-songwriter mxmtoon, who performed in NZ in late 2022. BUT almost monday have also done their own tour – most recently crossing the US and Europe in 2025. FURTHERMORE, they’ve opened for The Driver Era and Kings of Leon.

They’ve only done one collaboration so far in their careers
It seems almost monday prefer to release music where it’s just them playing, but they have one song so far with a feature, titled ‘Jupiter’ (ft. Jordana). It’s fun and quirky, blending quirky moments with summery energy, and is featured on the deluxe version of Dive.
They almost weren’t almost Monday
After a suggestion from a friend, the band originally planned to call themselves the Mondays. However, due to another act already holding the same name, they pivoted – which has turned out to be a fantastic decision for the band as it’s allowed them to carve their own unique identities in the music sphere without complications.
All the members are multitalented
In the beginning of 2019 the trio shook things up, changing up their responsibilities in the group. Daugherty stayed on vocals while occasionally contributing to rhythm guitar, Fibry moved to bass, and Clisby took over lead guitar. Not only are they incredible at their original positions, they’re all capable of holding down the fort on multiple fronts. Just one of many reasons they’re a powerhouse to look out for!
