How do you measure a year? The age-old question! For TWICE, the years are measured in eras that shaped the journey of a decade. It’s not an easy feat for a K-Pop group to reach ten years of activity, and that’s exactly what our favourite girl group did!
To celebrate a decade of TWICE, our ladies recently released TEN: The Story Goes On. The album was not just a reminiscent appreciation album for the support they’ve received all these years, but also a testament to their future and the success that is to come.
While TWICE has their eyes toward the future, we look back at their journey with our favourite TWICE eras from the past ten years!
1. CHEER UP
We weren’t sure what song to put on the first spot of the list, and ‘Like Ooh-Ahh’ was a tempting contender being TWICE’s debut song. But ‘CHEER UP’ perfectly encapsulates the first moment we fell in love with TWICE. It was the bouncy and cheerful cheerleader song that could turn a regular day into a good day. The ‘CHEER UP’ era was the defining era where TWICE went from being rookies to being the K-Pop sensation to watch out for.
2. TT
Only TWICE could make a song about heartbreak sound so adorable! A song about the frustration of unrequited love, ‘TT’ knows how to make our hearts dance and pout! There’s no better sweetener for sadness than a song that makes you feel like heartbreak could be fun. Plus, ‘TT’ comes with an iconic pose that any K-Pop fan could recognise!
3. What is Love
While we’re on the topic of age-old questions, here’s another one! What exactly is love? And is TWICE the answer?
Our next track is warm and catchy, and definitely a fan-favourite. ‘What is Love’ is probably TWICE’s most popular song yet, and it’s recently become their most streamed song on Spotify! Perhaps it’s to do with its universality, being a song about love, and showing people that love is fun, amazing, curious, and exciting!
4. YES or YES
With age-old questions, we have age-old answers! And TWICE makes it simple for us. We only have two choices, and that’s ‘YES or YES’!
This track is pure joy in a bottle. It’s bold, vibrant, and cheeky! The ladies grab you by the hand and introduce you to a newfound swagger you didn’t know you had. One that’s not just brave enough to face rejection, but let’s you wear rejection with confidence!
5. FANCY
‘FANCY’ was the dawn of a new era for TWICE. They weren’t the lovestruck and lovesick girls we knew and loved anymore. Here, they give us maturity and refinement, bringing us downtown to dance under the neon lights. The track is colourful and electric, but still true to TWICE’s theme of bringing people out of their shells!
6. I CAN’T STOP ME
Our next track is another electrifying one, but this time with more flare, drama, and of course, neon lights! ‘I CAN’T STOP ME’ was all about momentum. Nothing can stop you, not even yourself. Even TWICE starts to look for someone who can disrupt this momentum, but until then, they’ll be under the spotlight.
‘I CAN’T STOP ME’ was the turning point for the new and improved TWICE, marking a new chapter in their journey and a significant change in their sound.
7. Alcohol-Free
What’s your drink of choice? Oh, here we go again with more age-old questions!
‘Alcohol-Free’ is the TWICE song of the summer! It’s a tropical, island-sunset song that’s both dreamy and romantic. And honestly, it makes you feel like you’re on vacation yourself. You’ll find yourself wanting to head to the beach and ordering yourself a mojito (with lime)! ‘Alcohol-Free’ is also proof that the ladies can do a more relaxing song, just as they can do something exciting!
8. The Feels
This one is bound to steal your heart! TWICE’s first English single is a bright and sparkly comeback that pays homage to their puppylove era. And yes, it’s all about love and romance, but also about the joy of flirting! ‘The Feels’ marked the era of TWICE’s dominance of the mainstream West, a major milestone for an already successful group!
9. Talk that Talk
When it comes to bolder tracks, ‘Talk that Talk’ is that girl. It’s straightforward, maybe even demanding, and doesn’t beat around the bush. There really are so many facets to romance, and for ‘Talk that Talk’, it’s all about having standards in a partner! Plus, the blend of early era TWICE with their modern sound makes it an enjoyable track for both old and new fans alike!
10. THIS IS FOR
Something new, something different, ‘THIS IS FOR’ is our girl power anthem! It’s an uplifting shout from the heart that makes fans and listeners alike stand tall and celebrate their individuality and womanhood. The bold and bright anthem is nothing but empowering, and TWICE holds your hand all throughout the song, making sure you’re standing strong and won’t falter!
For ten years in their career, TWICE showcases the unique ability to blend fun, sincerity, and girlhood into a distinctly recognisable brand of their own. The ladies knew what they were doing for each song, and each song brought something new. Heck, we’ve barely scratched the surface of their amazing discography! But you can still see the same touch of TWICE in the tracks, a charm that they’ve carried that fans have loved for years.
