It’s been a year since Shawn Mendes released his self-titled album and what a crazy year it has been. The Canadian heart-throb has certainly been busy making his mark on the world. From cleaning up at award shows to returning to Saturday Night Live, we’ve compiled everything he’s been up to and chucked it all in one place for your convenience.
Because the sooner you realise that this is Shawn’s world and we’re just living in it, the better.

He became a Calvin Klein model

@CalvinKlein #MyCalvins. Campaign coming this week.

Much to literally everybody’s delight, Shawn Mendes announced in February that he was one of the new faces for Calvin Klein’s #MYTRUTH campaign. Appearing in a series of behind-the-scenes music moments and touching ads, Shawn gets vulnerable and shares what matters most to him. And the abs are alright too, we guess.

He cleaned up a few awards

Such as winning Favourite Male Artist at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards for the third year in a row, Best Live and Best Canadian Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards and Choice Pop Song for ‘In My Blood’ at the Teen Choice Awards. And that’s not even all of them!

Oh yeah, he totally performed with Miley Cyrus too

During his Grammys performance Miley Cyrus joined Shawn for a duet of ‘In My Blood,’ which was everything we didn’t think we needed. The pair also teamed up to pay tribute to legendary Dolly Parton at the MusiCares gala for a cover of ‘Islands In The Stream.’ Do we smell a collab coming soon?

He completed the Europe leg of his world tour

The Tour

A post shared by Shawn Mendes (@shawnmendes) on

From March to mid-April this year, Shawn was busy travelling around Europe for his world tour. Which meant plenty of content for us to drool over on his Instagram. It also gave us a glimpse at how the album sounds live and let’s just say we really can’t wait for his NZ gig in November.

He released a documentary

Directed by famous YouTuber Casey Neistat, the 14-minute-long doc follows Shawn around as he prepares for the launch of his album. Through backstage footage of rehearsals and performances, Casey asks Shawn questions about his career journey and personal thoughts and feelings. As if we couldn’t know more about him.

Justin Bieber challenged him to a game of ice hockey?

After Shawn posted his cover of The Observer Magazine which hailed him to be the ‘Prince of Pop,’ reigning Canadian heart-throb Justin Bieber had a few words to say.

“Hmm Gonna have to break a few more records to dethrone my title there bud,” Biebs playfully commented under Shawn’s post, “but if you want we can play hockey for it…” To which Shawn replied, “LOL any time any day you just let me know.”

We’d love to see this challenge happen!

He dropped a new tune

If you’re anything like us, you’ve been playing this song on repeat since it came out at the start of May. Packed with the familiar Shawn Mendes punch we love and a heartbroken message, we seriously can’t get enough. The song debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, making it Shawn’s highest charting hit in America, and it’s currently rocking the fourth spot on the NZ Top 40!

He returned to SNL

If there’s one thing that truly sets a star’s status it’s being a musical guest on NBC’s fan favourite Saturday Night Live. And if there’s one thing that proves that the star is a pretty big deal, it’s being a returning musical guest. Shawn came back to the show after 2 years and charmed us just the same. Performing his new hit as well as ‘In My Blood,’ he also joined in on some hilarious skits.

If you haven’t already, make sure you grab your tickets to see Shawn play Spark Arena on Saturday 9 November. You definitely don’t want to miss this one! For more information visit Ticketmaster.
